Overview

This privacy policy explains how hlulanichavalala.co.za ("this site") handles personal information. The site is a personal portfolio operated by Hlulani Chavalala from Limpopo, South Africa. It is not a commercial service and it does not sell, rent or trade personal information.

This policy is written in plain language and is intended to align with the principles of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Information collected

The site collects very little information, and only what is needed for it to work or for you to make contact:

• Contact details you choose to send. If you use the contact form, it opens your own email client with the name, email address and message you typed. That message is sent directly from your email account to mine — the site itself does not store or transmit it.
• Basic technical information. Like any website, requests made to the hosting provider may be logged (IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp) for security and reliability purposes.
• Analytics, if enabled. If a privacy-friendly analytics tool is added in future, it will collect aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics such as page views and referrers. This policy will be updated before any such tool is introduced.

How information is used

Your information is never used for automated decision-making, profiling, or marketing, and it is not shared with third parties except where a hosting or analytics provider processes it on my behalf, or where disclosure is required by law.

Cookies

Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to the conversation, and deleted when it no longer is. Server logs are retained by the hosting provider according to their own schedule, typically a short rolling window.

Your rights

You may ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Requests can be sent to the email address below and will be answered within a reasonable period.

This site links to external services such as GitHub and LinkedIn. Those services have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not cover what they collect once you leave this site.
